WILLIS BIGGAR "Chip" REDING Cdr. USN Ret, 87, was born on July 29, 1920, in Adams, Tennessee, the youngest of eight children, and stepped into glory April 9, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Velma Lee Reding and his daughters, Donna Chapman of Cabot, AR, Linda Schmall (husband Robert Schmall) ofArlington, TN and Janis Mooney of Knoxville, TN. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Jace Chapman and Melanye Weir, and five great-grandchildren Joshua, Kyle, Christian, Hayden, and Lauren, all of Cabot, AR. A fighter pilot in WWII, Chip was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, American Defense Medal, National Defense Medal, four air medals, WWII Victory Medal, United Nations Medal, American Theatre Medal, China Service Medal, and Korean Service Medal. He was a 25 year veteran of the USN. He spent 20 years with the Shelby County Baptist Association as the Director of Military Oasis in Millington. A faithful member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Millington, he took part in the bus ministry and in FAITH Ministry. He was committed to his GOD, his family, his church and his country. Visitation is Saturday, April12, at1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Millington with the service to follow at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the Harvest Fund of First Baptist Church Millington.
