IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Walter Dale
Goodman
August 31, 1954 – September 24, 2024
Walter Dale Goodman peacefully went to be with the Lord on the morning of September 24, 2024, at the Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, Tn Dale was born August 31, 1954, in Memphis, TN to Walter Durley Goodman and Wilma Smith Goodman.
Dale was the 3rd of 4 children. Dale attended Westside High School in Frayser. After high school he went to work at Kimberly Clark where he made baby diapers. Shortly after starting work, he ran into a beautiful blonde-haired girl, named Sherry at a local hangout. Several months of Dale and Sherry dating turned into a marriage, that marriage turned into the birth of 2 daughters. Dale and Sherry together decided they did not want to raise their children in the city, so they bought land and built a beautiful house in the Shelby Forest area. Through thick and thin for 18yrs Dale and Sherry built a story book life for themselves and their 2 daughters Ashley and Tracey. In 1996 Sherry was tragically taken from her family. Dale stood strong and raised their girls to know God and trust the path that had been laid out before them. He encouraged both girls to dive headfirst into horses and sports. The horses, barrel racing, and horse showing became their life. Dale followed his girls all over showing horses and enjoying every accomplishment. Dale also worked several years at the Shelby County Road Department building roads and bridges. He was a jack of all trades, from woodworking to mechanic skills he was able to do it all. Later, in life his daughters blessed him with 3 beautiful grandchildren. He was referred to as Peepaw, or Popple by his grandchildren who always brought a smile to his face. The grandchildren were his life. Anyone who knew Dale would tell you he was a friend to everyone he met, to know him was to love him.
Walter Dale was survived by his daughters Ashley Goodman Crook (Jeffrey), Tracey Elizabeth Goodman (Blair). Three grandchildren, Bentley, Millie, and Cole. Sisters Barbara Ballard (Jerry), Georgia Hales, and Dean Goodman (Karen), along with countless nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dale is preceded in death by his wife Sherry Hopper Goodman as well as his parents Walter Durley and Wilma Smith Goodman
