Obituary

Verna Admath Brown Hendricks, 89 passed away Thursday July 23, 2009. Visitation will be held Sunday July, 26th from 5-8pm with Funeral services on Monday, July 27th at 11:00am all at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home in Millington, TN.
Verna was a lifelong Sunday school teacher and a member of Bellevue Baptist Church for more than 30 years. Before attending Bellevue, she was teacher and member of Ardmore Baptist Church for 25 years. She was always a hard worker and did not retire until the age of 82. Past employers include The Treasury, Pink Place Museum, Burger King, and Sears. She is known to some as the "chicken lady" at Oak Court Mall where she worked at Chick-Fil-A for seven years. Verna and her late husband, Andrew Eugene Hendricks, Sr., owned one of the first heating and air conditioning companies in the city, Frayser Furnace and Air Conditioning. She was Salutatorian of her high school class in Wayne County, TN and was named runner up for Miss Wayne County. While her husband fought in World War II, she worked in the armory making bullets and other items needed on the frontlines. Verna was a devout follower of Jesus Christ and spent most of her life telling others about Him. She gave, shared, and loved many and will be terribly missed.
Verna was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Eugene Hendricks, Sr.; son, Andrew Eugene Hendricks, Jr.; Parents, J. Wesley & Inez Brown; brothers, William Harold Brown (Lenna), Boyce Brown (Christine), James Brown, and Willard Brown; and her sister, Naoma Brown.
She is survived by two daughters and one son, Barbara Braly (Ed); Verna Hamilton (Don); and Dennis Hendricks; two sisters, Hazel Stockton (John) and Betty Dunn (Bill); one brother, Daniel Brown (Brenda); sisters-in-law, Virginia Beddingfield and Frances Moore; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
