Obituary

Rudy Cates was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and a lover of music, who went home to be with the Lord on October 23,2025 with his wife at his side.

Born on August 2, 1951 in Memphis, Tennessee, Rudy lived a life marked by faith, kindness, and song. Whether he was playing the oboe, saxophone, mandolin, clarinet, or simply whistling along to a favorite hymn, his heart always found its rhythm in worship. Music was not just his passion—it was his ministry, a reflection of his deep love for the Lord and the people around him. Playing in the orchestra, was a joy and love for him. He spent countless hours perfecting the music he would play in Christmas and Easter performances.

Rudy's faith guided every part of his journey. He was a member of Rosemark Baptist Church in Millington TN.  His laughter, wisdom, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne, his children, Andy Cates, and Bethany Baldwin (Brock),his grandchildren, Olivia and Allyson.

He is preceded in death by his mother Billie Ann Cates, his father Vassal Rudolph Cates, and his sister Patty Kinney.

His family and friends will forever cherish his legacy of love, faith, and song.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7
