IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sylvia Kaye
Mckelvey
May 17, 1960 – August 17, 2021
Sylvia Kaye Cobble McKelvey, age 61, of Millington TN departed this life for heaven when God called August 17, 2021 after battling a chronic illness. She was of the Christian faith, a pianist and a member of River Deep Church in Memphis, TN. Sylvia was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on May 17, 1960. She was educated at Fairley High School and later Rhodes College in Memphis, TN. She retired from the Memphis/Shelby County School System where she worked in Information Technology. Sylvia loved her pets, gardening, playing the piano, art, travel, and spending time with her family. She was an advocate for caregivers of children with chronic and critical illnesses; having dedicated her life to serving as both mentor and friend to all. She was also a sincere advocate for pediatric Lupus funding. On January 28, 2013, Sylvia, along with her daughters, established 3 Wishes for Her as a 501c3 nonprofit with a mission to support the caregivers of the pediatric chronically and critically ill, by beginning a caregiver's bible study and support group. As a result of their efforts, "3W" was born and on October 9, 2017, a proclamation was issued by Millington, Tennessee Mayor Terry Jones that granted the day as " 3 Wishes for Her Day " in honor of her sacrifice and servitude to the women in her community and abroad. Sylvia built a team of partners to support these caregivers that included teachers, business owners, automobile mechanics, retirees, and community members. Her organization's support group has now assisted caregivers in all 50 states and several countries including Mongolia, Mexico, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands and continues to make an impact on lives. She lived to see many children healed and grieved as many departed this life, but one thing remained: her vision that no woman would walk the journey alone. She continued to follow these families for the duration of her life, as mentor, "momma" and friend. She held steadfast that all caregivers would have their spiritual, emotional and physical needs met while walking the journey of pediatric illness; regardless of the outcome, and she instilled in each caregiver self-worth, empathy, and resiliency.
Mrs. McKelvey was preceded in death by her father, James Harold Cobble, her husband Douglas Lee McKelvey, and niece Amanda Vuong. She leaves behind her mother: Vergie Elaine Cobble, brothers: Greg (Terry) and Jeff Cobble (Kayla), two daughters: Shondalee Michelle Lassiter (Nathan Moody) and Anna Jahnae Tetreault (Shane), grandchildren: Destiny and Cassy Jones, Travis Gafford, Ali and Jullien Tetreault, Great Grandchildren: Delaney Edwards, Naomi and Nadia Jones, the step grands of Douglas McKelvey including Katie and Abbie, and Hayden Moody. Nieces and nephews: Ashton Sprouse, Jordan Sprouse, Emerson Elaine Sprouse, Elyse Marie Sprouse, Ava and Autumn Cobble, Blake Cobble (Jessica), Shelby Taube, and Brittany Moses.
In addition to these cherished loved ones, Sylvia leaves behind the ladies and children of her beloved 3 Wishes for Her. In honor of her legacy, the family requests that all honorarium and memorials be to 3 Wishes for Her. You may contribute to her life's mission at 3wishesforher.org .
