Sylvia Duvall Hester, 79, of Memphis died Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Baptist Memorial Hospital Memphis. Ms. Hester was a Marine Veteran. She loved bowling at Northgate Bowling Lanes. Currently a member of Bellevue Baptist Church, Ms. Hester was formerly a member of Mount Terrace Baptist Church. She was the owner/operator of B & S Discount Grocery in Frayser; she also worked at RCA. She was the PTO President at Frayser Baptist Schools Inc., the first four years that PTO began. Ms. Hester is survived by her son, Beamon W. "Buddy" Hester Jr. (Debbie); a grandson, Garrett Ray Hester; two granddaughters, Shelby Delayne Hester; and Amanda Paige Hester; three great grandchildren; and her former business partner and loving friend, Barbara Benham. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lavinia Rona Hester. The family will receive friends at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be at Forest Cemetery in Gadsden, AL on Thursday, January 17, 2013.
