IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sue Nell
Millican
July 18, 1943 – December 25, 2024
Sue Nell Cox Millican danced peacefully and pain free into the arms of her beloved son Sidney and husband Henry on December 25,2024, after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry, her son Sidney, her brother Wilkie, her nephew Jeffrey, and her parents John Thomas and Clara Mae Cox. She is survived by her sister Juanita Smith of Millington, TN, her daughters Leigh-Ann Costner and Cindy Joyner both of Smyrna, TN and Jill Costner of Acworth, GA. Two step-children, Laura(Tawon) Hollingsworth of WA and Zach(Rebecca) Millican of Michigan and two grand-daughters Michelle Costner (Nick) of Acworth, GA and Kaitlan Costner (Bobby) of Norfolk, Va.
Born in McNairy County, Sue moved with her parents and siblings to Millington in 1944, when her Dad found work at the old Powder Plant. She grew up in Millington and after a couple of years in California, returned home in 1975, to raise her 2 children. Sue went to work on the Navy Base in Millington as Civilian Personnel until being offered the position of Public Affairs Officer, which she gladly accepted and served as until her retirement in 2011.
Sue loved her community and has many roots in Millington. If she wasn't at work, she could be found at Shake Rag where she often judged the annual Bar-B-Que Contest, Morries Tavern, The 19th Hole at the base golf course, or a softball field somewhere playing in the dirt! Sue loved playing softball along side her sister, Juanita. They also coached the Senior League Girls in Millington for multiple years where they crossed paths with so many girls who she considered family the rest of her life.
After retiring, Sue moved to LaVergne, TN to be closer to her son and daughter, where she quickly became quite the favorite everywhere she went. She and Henry developed a love for bowling, which they did a couple of times a week until she was no longer able. She loved working outside in her flower beds, if applying round-up counts... She always made sure the birds had plenty to eat and a roof over their heads.
Sue loved playing cards! On any given day, she could be found sitting around the table with her family playing screwball rummy. A card game her brother-in-law Bobby Kizer, introduced the family many years ago. This was her favorite pastime... playing cards with her family! Sue loved life! She never backed down from a challenge. She welcomed them. She met them head on. Sue was a fighter. She loved her family with everything she had. She loved the extended families she gained from her 2 children and their families!
SUE WILL BE MISSED BY ALL WHO KNEW AND LOVED HER....
