IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ruby Lee
Barnes
January 14, 1929 – March 7, 2021
Our beloved mother and Granny, Ruby Barnes, was born to Homer and Vera Crawford on January 14, 1929 near Paris, Tn. She peacefully passed away on March 7, 2021. She graduated from Cottage Grove High School and moved to Memphis, TN at 16 years of age and began working at the telephone company. She met and married Elmer (Red) Barnes in 1956. As a homemaker raising 2 children, she became a gifted seamstress sewing for anyone who needed something from cheerleading uniforms, bridesmaid dresses, pageant dresses. She could make anything & was very creative as well.
Later in life, she went to work for Walgreens & worked there until she retired at the age of 85. She helped with raising her grandchildren, working her schedule around their activities. She didn't miss any games, programs, races, or whatever they were involved in. She absolutely adored them.
She was very well versed in the Bible with bookcases full of commentaries & study manuals. She was a member of East Side Baptist Church and was involved in the blanket ministry, which incorporated her quilting skills. She made many beautiful quilts. She entered several in the local fair, winning blue ribbons, which she was proud of. She was happy to serve in any way she could.
She was preceded in death by husband, Elmer Barnes, and brother, Paul Crawford.
She is survived by daughter, Sandra Billops (John) of Hickory Withe, son, Bobby Barnes of San Diego, California, sisters Mary Moon of Gleason, TN, and Norma Crawford of Rochester, MI, brother Thomas Crawford of Springville, TN.
Grandchildren Austin Billops, Allison Billops, & Ashtyn Billops.
