Robert Irving Bingel, Sr. - age 91 of Drummonds, TN, formerly of Memphis, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2018 at Methodist North Hospital after a short illness, surrounded by his family.  He was born on February 4, 1927 in Chicago, IL to Irving Theodore and Martha Emily Bingel.

We remember Bob as a proud member of the Merchant Marine at the tail end of WWII.  He went on to study Engineering and became proficient in the field of fluid dynamics.  He started his own distribution and consulting company after moving with his family from Illinois to the Memphis area in the 1965.  He enjoyed being a private pilot and being an avid boater.  Bob's uncanny resemblance to actor David Niven, his dry sense of humor, his sophisticated demeanor, his depth of knowledge and his results-oriented relations with customers, friends and neighbors alike led to a comfortable assimilation for the family in their new home.

Robert Bingel and his unique character and talents will be missed by many, many people whose lives he touched and inspired.

Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Ann; granddaughter, Laura Ashley and his parents.  Survivors include daughter, JoyAnn E. Bingel of Atoka; two sons, Duane R. Bingel and Robert I. Bingel, Jr., both of Memphis; one brother, Roger Bingel of Ocala, FL and three grandchildren, Caryn Elaine, Timothy Robert and Kevan Richard.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Robert I. Bingel, Sr. to The Wounded Warrior Project.  Mr. Bingel will be interred at a later date at Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery.
