Richard Allen Archer, CPO (Ret) U.S. Navy, graduated from this life and departed to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 13, 2013. He was born December 24, 1942 to the late, Hester Clark and Floyd "Doc" Archer in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was a graduate of Garfield High School and State Tennessee Institute of Memphis. Richard served 21 years in the U.S. Navy, attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He then spent 22 years with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 2004. He gave his heart and soul to Jesus Christ on October 13, 1980 and was baptized in the Liberty Free Will Baptist Church baptistery before completion of the building. He continued to serve in many capacities for 33 years. He directed his heart toward raising support for International Missions areas through the annual Tennessee Walk-a-Thon. Richard''s greatest love after God was his undying love for his dear wife and soul-mate, Janice, with whom he shared his life for 50 years. Richard was a dedicated University of Memphis sports fan and an avid golfer. He recently accomplished the dream of every golfer with a hole- in- one at Orgill Golf Course. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Janice Jewell Archer; three children, Robert Stephen Archer of Dixonville, TN, Tracey Jayne Burch of Drummonds, TN, and Michael Christopher Archer of Atoka, TN. He also leaves one brother, William Archer of Knoxville, TN and five grandchildren whom he cherished. He was a friend to all who knew him and a wonderful husband and father. "The Lord giveth, the Lord hath taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord." Job 1:21. The family will receive friends at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home on Friday, August 16, 2013 from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 4:00 p.m.at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home. Interment will be at Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery.
