DR. P. W. REED, 85, Millington optometrist for 63 years and builder/contractor, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014 at home. Visitation will be Friday, March 7 from 5-8 p.m. Services, 10 a.m., Saturday, March 8 at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home, 6755 Highway 51 Millington. Dr. Reed graduated from Southern College of Optometry in 1949. He was also a United States Army Korean War veteran. He was a lifetime deacon at First Baptist Church, a life member of the Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians, 50 year member of West Tennessee Optometric Society, life member of Millington Lions Club, 50 year member of Royal Arch Masons Chapter #225, 50 year member of Millington Lodge #671. Husband of Dessie Grantham Reed for 61 years, he also leaves a son, David Reed of Fort Worth, TX; a son-in-law, Wyatt Shankle of Huntsville, AL; two grand-children, Hannah Shankle of Huntsville, AL, Ruth Shankle Patel and husband, Ashok Patel of Savannah, GA. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rachel Reed Shankle; both parents; brothers, Dr. Loyd Reed; Dr. Thomas Reed; Guy Reed; Gerald Reed; and a sister, Opal Clowes. Memorials may be sent to the Millington Lion''s Club.
