Obituary

Max Everett Garrett, 73, also known as Mickey in his youth and Pat in his Navy days, passed away March 23, 2009 from complications of Liver Cancer. Born in Strongstown, PA in 1936, son of Vinton Thomas an Martha Edith Davis Garrett, Max was a Navy Veteran, serving his country for 30 years. He began his Navy career as an Aviation Machinist Mate and retired with the rank of Chief Aviation Machinist Mate. After retirement from the military he worked on the base in Millington teaching airplane mechanics, then for Bailey Technical School teaching auto mechanics. He joined Southwest Tennessee Community College when it was still State Technical Institute at Memphis and taught on the Navy base for several years. When State Tech was given the opportunity to house the Ford Asset Program, he was approached to develop, implement and the teach the program. As a Ford Instructor, he held certificates in every automotive system imaginable. He was a magician when it came to automobiles-- he could just listen to an engine and tell you exactly what was wrong with it. That talent will be sorely missed by family and friends. He was a 32nd degree Mason, serving at the Frayser and Millington Masonic Lodges. Surviving him are his wife of 51 years, Lottie Loretta Dempsey Garrett, two daughters: Tehronda Elaine Garrett Lucas and Dixie Dawn Garrett Lucas (Jeff Lucas) and two grandchildren: Sheena Monette Lucas and Ian Miles Lucas. He also leaves his brothers, Alvie John Garrett and their families, and Matilda Davis Hughes, all of Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Joey Randall (Randy) Lucas. Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 25th and services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 26th at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home in Millington. 901-872-3375 www.northridgewoodhaven.com
