Marion Frederick Wafler Sr., 87, died Tuesday October 26, 2010 in Memphis, TN. Marion, a long time resident of Memphis, was born in Granite City, IL. He was raised in Steele, MO. By his parents, Herman A. and Grace C. Wafler. Marion was the salutatorian of his graduating class in 1941 at Steele High School in Steele, MO. He entered the United States Army Air Corps in January of 1943 and served in the European Theatre during WWII. He was honorably discharged in November of 1945. He was employed for 47 years at Orgill Brothers, a large wholesale hardware company in Memphis. He worked in sales, then as a buyer, and later retired as a merchandise manager. He was an active member of Ardmore Baptist Church in Frayser for 34 years and Crossroads Baptist Church in Arlington for 9 years. He served in church leadership on various committees and as the Sunday School Director in both churches for a total of 42 years. In October of 2010 Crossroads Baptist Church honored him with the title of "Sunday School Director Emeritus." He enjoyed all church activities, camping, hunting, and especially fishing with his family. Marion is survived by his Wife: Dorothy J. Wafler, Sons: Marion F. (Marilyn) Wafler Jr., Stanley A. (Pam) Wafler, Daughters: Jerry A. (Bill) Wooldridge, Mary L. (Dickie) Arwood, Judy Y. (Joe) Clary, Ginger Y. (Milton) Tubbs, Sisters: Edith Acuff & Martha Williams, 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents: Herman Sr. and Grace Wafler; brothers: Herman Wafler Jr. and Ralph M. Wafler and sister: Shirley Ketchum Visitation will be held from 12:30 2 p.m. on Friday October 29, 2010 at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home in Millington, TN. A Celebration of Life Service for Marion will be at 2 p.m. with interment to follow at Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery.
