Obituary

MABLE MARY BENOIT GARDNER, November 5, 1925 - September 5, 2011. Mable, our loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Diva and friend was delivered peacefully into the arms of God. She died of natural causes at her home surrounded by love. She was born the youngest child of Mable Mary Young Benoit and Norma Victor Benoit in Shreveport, LA. She was the proud Mother of two children, Wayne Francis Gardner and Gail Gardner Walker after her marriage to Alvin Morris Gardner in 1946. She led an active life with dancing, bowling, traveling and working at Sears in Memphis. She retired in 1987 to enjoy her passion for cooking great meals for her expanding family of five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She and Alvin enjoyed casino trips, Branson, Africa and Hawaii. Mable''s shining qualities were her sense of humor, expressive brown eyes and ability to experience some unusual situations and accidents that only "Mable" could accomplish. She would end up on any stage with an entertainer or volunteer for any stunt to enjoy every moment! Memories of her antics and her recipes will be treasured by many. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Norman Andrew Benoit and loving husband of 56 years, Alvin. She leaves behind her children, Wayne of Tunica, MS, Gail of Seattle, WA, grandchildren, Tiffany Nations of Munford, TN, Shane Gardner of Memphis, TN, Trey Walker and Kimberly Best of Cheney, WA and Bret Walker of Edmonds, WA. She lived to know all of her great-grandchildren, Christopher and Hannah Sutherland of Munford, TN, Morgan and Turner Gardner of New York City and Tank and Tenli Best of Cheney, WA. Her family desires to express gratitude to her caregivers who showed her love and gentle care on a daily basis; Shequitta Seaberry, Kimberly Shaw, Anne Woods and Crossroads Hospice. Your dedication to her allowed us to have peace when we could not be with her. A celebration of her life on Friday, September 9 and interment will be at Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery on Hwy 51, Millington, TN, with visitation 12 to 2 p.m. and services at 2 p.m. Her loving nephew, Harold Benoit of Houston, TX will deliver her eulogy as he did for Alvin in 1999. Pallbearers will be Shane Gardner, Trey Walker, Bret Walker, Christopher Sutherland, Keith Walker and Ryan Bishop. In lieu of flowers, send donations to a pet or cancer charity of choice. www.northridgefh.com (901)872-3375
