Lottie Loretta Dempsey Garrett (Grandlady), 74, died March 2, 2014 after a short illness. Born in Richie, MS, Loretta grew up near the Gulf and loved the beach. She married Max Everett Garrett in 1957. They lived in the Shelby Forest area of Shelby County, Tennessee for the majority of their married lives. She was known for her fabulous cooking and sharing her baked goods and potato salad with friends and family. She leaves behind two daughters, Dixie Lucas and her husband, Jeff; Tehronda Lucas; two grandchildren, Sheena Lucas Pruett, and her husband Johnathon; and Ian Lucas; and a grandson, Griffyn; brothers, Willis L. Dempsey Jr. and family; Sister, Dorothy Weeks and family; and brother, Carlton Dempsey and family; and a close family friend, Chris Rowe. She also leaves behind many friends and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Everett Garrett, her parents, Willis Lafayette Dempsey, Sr. and Ermie Marie Westbrook Dempsey; two babies; and her son-in-law, Joey Randall "Randy" Lucas. There will be no formal service. Her wishes were for the family and friends to have a party and celebrate her life, which will be held in the near future. One will be local and another will be held on the beach at Dauphin Island, AL in the spring for her friends and family there.
