Larry M. Davenport,85, a resident of Millington, TN passed away April 23, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital East Memphis, TN. He was born on December 12, 1938, in Gloversville, NY to Leon and Eva Davenport.
Larry was a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer serving the US Navy for over 20 years where he was in advanced electronics. He served in the Vietnam War and retired from the US Navy while stationed at Millington Naval Base. After he retired, he worked for the US Postal Service as a maintenance technician. Larry was also an award-winning songwriter and published several music genres. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Linda Davenport and his parents; Leon and Eva Davenport, sons; Wayne Davenport and Jerry Triplett, daughters; Kelly Carlsen and Lorena Walker.
Mr. Davenport is survived by his daughter; Sandra Boyd (Joe) of Memphis, TN, son; Lee Triplett (Regina) of Crestview, FL, brother; Eugene Davenport of Arkansas, grandchildren; Leeann Gatewood, Michael Davenport, Matthew Lowe, Danielle Specht, Kristine Lowe, Heather Triplett, Dennis Keller, Brittanie Vaughn, Amber Thomas, Arita Key, Amber Carlson, and Brandy Triplett, over 60 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather Wednesday May 1, 2024, at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home, 6755 HWY 51 N Millington, TN, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home. Following the service family and friends will gather at the VFW, 4681 Cuba Millington Rd Millington, TN 38053, in the Tennessee Ball Room. Inurnment will take place at a later date with full military Honors in Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery, 6755 HWY 51 N Millington, TN 38053.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Larry's honor to the VFW or The Wounded Warriors Program.
