Katherine Byrd, 84, of Memphis, passed away March 11, 2014 at Methodist University Hospital after a short illness, with her family at her bedside. She was a great witness to the Lord. She lived a faith filled life and He has blessed her with His priceless gift of peace. Katherine was born on February 28, 1930 in Memphis where she lived most of her life. She was a loving, caring, adoring, thoughtful sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She is survived by her daughter, Gail B. Hershey; grandchildren, Shaun Hershey; Amanda Hershey Herrman (Matthew); Marilyn Byrd; Jimmy Byrd (Rebecca); Daniel Byrd (Stephanie); four great grandchildren, Alice, Oliver, Charlie, and Henry, her sister, Christine Stafford; and brother, Sim Wray. Mrs. Byrd was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas M. Byrd; and her four sons, Robert Allen Byrd; William Byrd; Thomas Byrd; and Stephen Byrd. The family will receive friends at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home on Friday, March 14, 2014 from 11:00 - 1:00 p.m. Funeral Services begin at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Interment will be at Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be sent to St Jude Children''s Research Hospital 272 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, Tennessee 38104.
