Obituary

John I. Sandlin, "Coach John", 72, passed away in Memphis, TN on June 21, 2018.  He was at his home surrounded by the love of his wife, Kaye; and his beloved dogs, Cassie, Willie, Odie, Jake, and Mr. Trouble.  He was born in Memphis, TN to the late John and Mamie Sandlin. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.  He attended Hope Presbyterian Church, and was a member of the Professional Tennis Association. After retiring from his service as a Memphis Firefighter, John got to live his passion of tinkering with cars and coaching tennis.  He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 30 years, Kaye, of Memphis, TN; his mother-in-law, Loraine Stewart "Grandma"; a brother, Paul Sandlin; a sister, Roxanne Bomar; and his best friend, Randy Alberson. He was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents, and a brother, Rick Sandlin.  Mr. Sandlin's family wants to express their deep gratitude to the staff of Amedisys Hospice, who cared for him so well during his illness. A memorial service for Mr. Sandlin will be held at 2:00 Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Northridge-Woodhaven Funeral Chapel in Millington, TN. Those who wish to honor his memory are encouraged to donate to the Memphis Humane Society or the Animal Rescue Organization of your choice.
