IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Stanley
Brasel Sr. Usn Retired
September 11, 1939 – November 1, 2024
John Stanley Brasel, Sr., US Navy Retired, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on November 1, 2024 at the age of 85. Born on September 11, 1939, in Booneville, Mississippi, to Howard and Lilly Bell Brasel, John faced life's challenges from a young age, developing a work ethic and strength of character that defined him throughout his life.
At only eighteen years of age, he responded to a call larger than himself, joining the U.S. Navy and serving his country with distinction for 20 years.
Following his military career, John dedicated four decades to founding and operating his own roofing company, earning a reputation as a respected figure known for his dedication, integrity, and care.
In April of 1960, he married the love of his life, Bonnie. Together they built a life rich in love, laughter, and family. They raised five children who continue to carry his spirit forward: John Stanley Jr. (Bruce), Debra Coplon (Steven), Kenneth Sr., Jane Beal (Darren Sr.), and Melissa Huang (Jim).
Although he was known as a caring father, brother, uncle, and faithful friend, John was most affectionately embraced as "Papaw" by his beloved grandchildren--Anna (Garret), Laura (Timothy), Candysse (Carlos III), Kenneth Jr., Darren Jr. (Nicole), Sarah (Caleb), Conner, Elizabeth, Jonathan, Hannah, Caleb, Christian, Corban, Lauren, Sophia, Lindsey, and Leah--as well as his great-grandchildren, Wallace, Brandon, Ari, Tilden, Darren III, Carlos IV, Grayson, Grace, Ella, and Asher Lewis, and soon to be born, baby boy Zayden & numerous nieces and nephews.
John's warmth, loyalty, and generosity left a lasting mark on everyone he encountered. He was known for his unwavering commitment to God, his family and friends and for his life of strong values, exemplifying kindness and service to others. As a deacon for over 30 years, and a dedicated member at Grace Baptist Church of Rosemark, he lived his faith daily and led by example in his devotion to his church community.
Preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Lilly Bell, his siblings, Jewel Chittom, Kirk, Travis, Newt, Gladys Chittom, Billy, Hubert, Harold and Billy. His sister, Dorothy Kitson, remains as the last of the living siblings. John leaves behind his devoted wife, Bonnie, and a large, loving family who will remember him as a pillar of strength, love, and guidance.
