IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jean Fay
Clements
August 9, 1941 – February 12, 2023
Jean Fay Clements passed away at the age of 81 on February 12, 2023, in Covington, TN at Baptist Memorial Tipton Hospital. She leaves behind her dearly devoted husband, Quincy, whom she frequently referred to as her Rock of Gibraltar. He was always by her side and forever in her corner. If she needed something, he already had it at the ready. She is further survived by her son, Douglas, and her daughter-in-law Melody.
My mom was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 9, 1941. Her star sign aligned her as a lion, both stalwart and stubborn, a Leo to the core. As in the story of Oz, she shared a big heart with its lion, who also found courage in his kindness. Her heart's door was always flung wide open for all to receive, pouring out a sweetness akin only to honeysuckle on a dry summer day. And she never liked the cold.
She loved crafts, and dabbled in the creative arts. Greeting cards flowed from her hands like ink from a printer, never running dry in her midst. Consider yourself soaked in a bath of Hallmark glittery goodness if any occasion could call for one to be made. Or even if it didn't, you were getting a card regardless.
She had an eye for floral arrangements and the hands to bring them into fruition. And yet, I know it was really just the making of something to see someone smile, which was her true motive. She loved horses and settled down with a true Texas cowboy. Later, she gifted me with life because the Lord heard and answered her fervent prayers.
Like the lace and roses she loved so much, she too sought to inspire gaiety in all her comings and goings. She loved Elvis, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, and Birthdays. If food and cake were a part of it, she celebrated it. Anytime to get our family together to watch movies and indulge in scrumptious food; that was her favorite pastime, especially the planning of appetizing dinners and then cooking them up in her kitchen. I shall dearly miss her meatloaf, unique potato salad, meaty taco pies, unusally good poppy seed bread and homemade peach cobbler. I know she hankered for earthly pastries and donuts since she came from a family of professional bakers. She eagerly sought out such baked delights ever since her childhood, and with a vigilance only a true Yankee connoisseur could truly understand. However, I will vow to happily consume them on her behalf, just so the world isn't shorted in her absence.
And family. Always, our family! Just like the softer side of Victor Newman in the stories she faithfully watched for decades on Young and the Restless. I'd say she lived a full life and, at the end of it all, was content and scarcely confident in little else. And if not, Jelly Belly Jelly Beans were her favorite bandaids near the end. She knew Jesus and taught me the Lord's Prayer as a child. She had me baptized, for which I am forever grateful. We believe she is with Him now, along with all the dogs she loved and doted on in her lifetime. Animals were always her soft spot and any and all who knew her (and my father) were spoiled beyond compare. Thanks for the unplanned stray cat, Mom! Bella loves you.
Her greatest achievement was that she made home, a home. Our home, with pleasant aromas wafting from the kitchen, hearty homemade dinners splayed out across the dining room table, and happy stomachs warmed from within with motherly love. And we believe home is where she is now, with Him, our Lord Jesus Christ, in the highest form a family could ever hope to strive for, awaiting our return to be with her again, in Heaven.
