Janie Furr Roberts, born June 7, 1921 in Pontotoc, Mississippi to Atha and Irvin Little, passed away in Denton, Texas on July 11, 2009. Janie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Janie married William Doyal (W.D.) Roberts Jr. on Christmas Day, 1941 and shared 47 wonderful years of marriage before W.D. passed away in 1988. Janie worked for many years as a manager in the accounting department for Kentucky Fried Chicken of Memphis before retiring in 1984. She moved to Argyle, Texas in 1996 to be closer to her son and his family. Besides her selfless love and devotion to her family, Janie faithfully served her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Janie was a long time member or Frayser Baptist Church in Memphis where she was a teacher and director in the nursery for many years. Most recently Janie belonged to Oakmont Baptist Church in Denton, Texas. Janie was preceded in death by her beloved husband W.D., father Irvin Little, mother Atha Little, brother Jimmy Little and sisters Ella Neal Windham and Margaret Cannon. Janie is survived by sister Jean Kelley and her husband Bob, brother-in-law Homer Cannon, son John Roberts and his wife Barbara, granddaughter Randi Roberts and grandson Mike Shirley and his wife Keely and great- grandsons Alex and Zach Shirley along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that loved her so dearly over the years. Janie devoted her life to her family and to her Lord. Her quiet, strong love was felt by all and will be remembered in the inspiration and guidance she provided to us and that we will always carry in our hearts. While we are all saddened by the loss of this wonderful woman, we are comforted in knowing that she is now united with the loves of her life, W.D. and her Lord, Jesus Christ. Janie, Mom, Grandma, Aunt Jane, we love you and will miss you so very much. Visitation will be from 6 to 8PM Wednesday, July 15, at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home in Millington. Services will be at 11AM on Thursday, July 16, at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home in Millington with burial at the adjacent Woodhaven Memorial Gardens.
