Ileen Sanders Key, 94, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2014 at home with her children at her side. A lifelong resident of Memphis, she was preceded in death by her husband of 78 years, Wayne Key, who died in March of 2014, as well as by her sister Avandelle Crutcher, and brothers, Gene Sanders and Everett Sanders. Ileen is survived by her two children, Kay Nunnelee (Don) and Wayne Key, granddaughters, Dana Felkner (Rob), April Jackson (Matthew), Sarah Key (David), and Rebekah Key, and three great grandchildren, Harrison and Lauren Felkner and Matthew Lewis. She is also survived by her brother, Harry Sanders and sister, Margaret Beaver. Ileen was a homemaker and active in the PTA and Friends of the Library. She was an avid reader, often reading up to eight books a week as her evening entertainment. Ileen was a longtime member of Ardmore Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher in the Children's Department and then as Church Librarian; she later became a member of Crossroads Baptist, Arlington. She is remembered by others for her sweetness and kindness. Her role as mother evolved into being her daughter's best friend, leaving a loving legacy of memories. She was her granddaughters' number one fan and as an integral part of their lives gave them confidence and strength that such a special grandmother knows how to give. Ileen and Wayne are remembered by their family for working together to provide consistent love, support and security for each of them. The family will receive friends at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 from 12:30 -2:00. Funeral Services begin at 2:00. Interment will be at Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery.
