Obituary

Herbert R. Lucas, three weeks and three days short of his 91st birthday, died at home of natural causes on July 25, 2015.
Born to Daniel Webster Lucas and Gladys Holland Lucas on August 18, 1924, Herbert was one of 6 children. He was raised near Dyersburg, TN and attended Dyersburg High School.
As a senior in high school, Herbert was drafted into the military in 1943. He joined the Marine Corps, seeing action on the islands of the Pacific Theatre during World War II.
After leaving the military, he earned his diploma, achieved a certification in machining/tool and die from what would become Memphis Area Vo-Tech and then went to work at International Harvester in Memphis. He retired from there after more than 30 years employment. Not one to sit still after retirement, he took upholstery classes at Memphis Area Vo-Tech and practiced that trade out of his home for several years.
He married Doris Virginia Brasfield on November 23, 1949 in Memphis, TN, and was the proud father of four: Brenda, Randy, Jeff and Karma. He and Doris spent most of their lives together in the Shelby Forest area, and were members of Embury United Methodist Church.
He leaves behind his children: Brenda Roper (Jim), Jeffery Lucas (Dixie), Karma Dancy (John), and daughter-in-law, Tehronda Lucas; six grandchildren: Joshua Roper (Ashley), Sarah Beth Roper Wells (Chris), Sheena Lucas Pruett (Johnathon), Andrew Roper, Katherine Roper and Ian Lucas; and six great-grandchildren: Jackson and Alex Roper, Regina, Madeline and Caroline Wells and Griffyn Pruett; and his younger brother, Jack Lucas of Dyersburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; son, Joey Randal "Randy" Lucas; his parents and all but one of his brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from 6 pm until 8 pm Wednesday, July 29, 2015 and funeral will be at 10 am Thursday, July 30, 2015.at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home and Cemetery, 6755 Hwy. 51 North, Millington, TN. Friends and family are welcome to then gather at the fellowship hall of Embury United Methodist Church, 2060 Locke Road, Millington, TN.
