Gloria Stewart Savage was born September 30, 1938, in a small town nestled in the mountains of Virginia to Jesse and Bess Akers. Gloria was the second of 3 children. Her mom was a school teacher and her dad worked repairing the mountain roads. She loved learning and roaming the mountains with her friends. Always looking for an adventure, she took a job at the age of 17 for the FBI in Washington D.C. and worked as a secretary. She met Clarence there and they were married Dec. 1957. A year later they had DiAnna in Ft. Meade, Maryland. The Navy sent the family to Morocco Cyprus where they had Jolene and Anita. When stationed in Hawaii Samantha was born, and Eddie was born while stationed in Rota, Spain. Clarence retired and they moved to Millington, TN after 20 years of service. Gloria worked different secretarial jobs over the years: Rhodes College, Coke, and Coors. She and Clarence loved to entertain and go out dancing. Gloria loved her church and looked forward to Joy Circle and Sunday School at First United Methodist, she also loved singing in the choir. She is survived by her children: Edward Stewart Savage (Amber), DiAnna Goode(Don), Jolene Marie Barton, Anita Belle Desonia (Stan), Samantha Lee Carrisoza; grandchildren: Sara Reanna Carrisoza, Rachel Michelle Goode, Eugenia Powers Raines, Taylor Marie Savage, Jared Henson Barton, Joseph Edward Barton, Joshua Grant Barton, Joseph Daniel Goode, Marcus Edward Haley, Matthew Deaton Haley, Matthew Wayne Powers, Michael Aaron Powers, Jesse Stewart Savage, Robert Edward Savage, and William Matthew Savage; ten great-grandchildren (with one on the way); and brother-in-law, Donald Dewey Savage (Linda). A celebration of life service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Millington on Friday, August 9, 2019, at 11:00 am. Interment will be held at Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery.
