December 4, 1941 – January 15, 2022
Frederick Dewey Sexton, age 80, resident of Millington, Tennessee, died Saturday, January 15, 2022 at St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett, Tennessee after an extended illness.
A native Memphian, he attended Memphis Tech High School and then served in the US Army in the Military Police where he was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone. After returning to Memphis, he began a long career with International Harvester, from where he retired.
Fred is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Jean (Ambrose) Sexton of Millington, TN, son Freddy (Carla) of Arlington; son Zach (Michelle) of Lakeland, grandsons Cole and Quinn of Lakeland, great-granddaughter Ella, great-grandson Flynn, brother Mike (Pat) Sexton of Lakeland, and his pet Yorkie Terrier Brodie.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Christine Sexton, father Ralph Sexton, sister Mary Sexton of Memphis, and brother Larry Sexton of Southaven, Mississippi.
Fred was an avid golfer, who also enjoyed fishing. As a 32nd degree Mason and 50-year member of Al Chymia Shrine of Memphis, he served in many roles, including Circus Director, Recorder, past President of Southeastern Shrine Association, and a member of the Marching Patrol which helped raise funds for Shriners Hospitals for Children. He enjoyed driving patients from Memphis to St. Louis and Cincinnati to the hospitals when needed.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home, 6755 Hwy 51 North, Millington from 9:00 am until the time of the service at 10:00 am. Burial will be private at Forest Hill Memorial Park Midtown.
