Obituary

DORIS IMOGENE JOHNSON ROWLAND STURDIVANT, 80 years old, of Millington, TN, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, September 25, 2012. She was born March 4, 1932 in Eads, TN to John and Erma Johnson. She was blessed with one sister, Alice J. McCain. She graduated valedictorian of the 1950 class of Millington Central High School. She was married to Bill Sturdivant August 29, 1977. She retired from NAMTG (Naval Air Maintenance Training Group) in 1989 and continued working in civil service for 10 years at Del-Jen. She began playing piano, at the age of 12, for Embury Methodist Church and late in life at Big Creek Baptist Church. She was very charitable as she gave to various charities every year, usually in honor of her family. After 68 years at Embury Methodist Church she was baptized and became a member of Big Creek Baptist Church on March 3, 2002. She is survived by her sister, Alice J. McCain of Millington, four children, Johnnie Ruth Hahs (Sam) of La Feria, TX, Nancy Lynn Asbridge (Paul Jr.), Steven Howard Rowland (Alesa), Alan Ray Rowland (Kerry) all of Millington, six grandchildren, Michelle Asbridge Bone (Tamela) of Millington, Erin Hahs (Rob) of La Feria, TX, Steven "J.R." Rowland, Paul "Trey" Asbridge (Carra), Heather Hamby and Austin Rowland all of Millington, eight great-grandchildren, Alexandra Pilcher of La Feria, TX, Ashlee, Kaylee and Natalee Bone, Natalie, Michael and Sophia Holley and Paul Asbridge IV all of Millington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Sturdivant January 17, 1979. A visitation will be held at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home Thursday, September 27, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 28, 2012 at 3 p.m. at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home with interment to follow. Memorials can be made to Big Creek Baptist Youth Fund, Embury United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund or a charity of the donor''s choice.
