Donald W. Lane, 76, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2104. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine, who died last week. Also preceding him in death are his parents, Roy N. Lane and Marguerite Lane, sister, Pat Brown; brothers, Raymond, Benford, John, and Roy Jr.; and one son, Donald W. Lane Jr. He leaves his daughters, Jo Anne Berryhill (Matt); Brenda Sue Lilley (John); son, Raymond Lane; two step-daughters, Patti Joyner and Pamela Joyner; one step-son, Kenny Joyner; nine grandchildren; Blake Lane, Britney, Berryhill, Melissa Tippitt, Timmie Harris, Debbie Ortlieb, Jerry Thompson, Taylor Todd, Tanner Lane Rains, Spencer Hardy; and 8 great grandchildren. "Papa Don" went from a childhood at Gailor Hall (now called Youth Village) to Catholic High School in Memphis. He then joined the United States Navy where he served honorably for 28 years, starting as an E-1 and retired as a CWO4. He then worked as a civilian instructor at NAS Memphis for 4 years, and then 3 years at Memphis Job Corps as an Electronic Instructor. Papa Don never met a stranger and made everyone he met smile. He did talk a lot but he also knew how to listen. He is silent now and at rest. The family will receive friends at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home Tuesday, September 30, 2014 from 5-8. A scripture service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be held at Church of the Nativity 5955 St Elmo Rd, Memphis, TN 38135 on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery.
