June 12, 1939 – November 15, 2018
Chief Warrant Officer, Clifton Davis "CD" Johnson, Sr, 79, died peacefully in Holly Springs, MS on November 15, 2018. Clifton was born on June 12, 1939 in Bolton, MS to the late Lacey and Willie Mae Johnson. He confessed his faith in Christ at Orange Hill Baptist Church in Bolton, MS in 1955. In 1962, he joined the Armed Forces. He went to basic training in Ft. Smith, AR before his fateful assignment in Ft. Sill, OK, which led to trips back and forth to Memphis, TN where he crossed paths with Marie. Marie was the church secretary, and the couple met through Rev. James L Netters, the pastor at Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church in 1962. They were married on June 20, 1964. Clifton retired in 1982 as a Vietnam veteran and a faithful and loyal soldier for 20 years. Upon retirement, the couple joined Millington First Baptist Church where he was a member of the choir, an usher, deacon and outreach leader. Clifton was also a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma, Inc. fraternity. Clifton was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and nine brothers and sisters. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 54 years, Marie; three sons, Walter Smith, Clifton Jr (Kimi), Fred (Jennifer) and one daughter, Kim; five grandchildren, Joyia, Quinton, Tre`, Caitlyn and Kristopher; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will be remembered for his faith, love for his family, dedication to the United States Army, smile, laugh, giant handshake, and even bigger hug.
