Clarence Edward Savage (Ed) was born on August 31, 1934 in Morehouse, MO to Clarence Dewey Savage and Bertha Ardella Cossey Savage. Clarence was the third of four children. His parents were share-cropper''s and he spent his early years picking cotton, going to school, and playing basketball. He joined the United States Navy at the age of 18.

Early in his Navy career he was stationed in Washington D.C., where he met Gloria Stewart Savage. The two were married Dec. 1957. One year later they had their first child, Di Anna in Fort Meade, Maryland. The Navy sent the family to Morocco, Cyprus, where they had Jolene and Anita. When stationed in Hawaii Samantha was born. And Eddie was born while stationed in Rota, Spain. The following year Clarence retired to Millington, TN after 20 years of service.

Clarence volunteered to work on the air craft carriers USS Bennington and the USS Oriskany because his allergies where too bad to stay inland. Clarence was a CTRC during his career in the Navy. He played on a traveling intermural Basketball and Softball team during his deployments. Later he refereed basketball and was a softball umpire. After he retired he began to play golf, which is how he spent a lot of his spare time.
After retiring from the Navy, he began a career as a contractor for the military at NAS Memphis in Millington, TN. He operated the telecommunications on the Navy Base for 22 years. Clarence enjoyed going to the University of Memphis football games, playing golf, and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved singing in the choir at the First United Methodist church where he was a member for over 40 years.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Savage; son, Edward Stewart (Rebecca) Savage; daughters, Jolene Marie Barton; Samantha Lee Carrisoza; Anita Belle (Stan) DeSonia; and Di Anna (Don) Goode; brothers Donald Dewey (Lynda) Savage; and William Henry ( Olene) Savage; grandchildren, Sara Reanna Carrisoza; Rachel Michelle Goode; Eugenia Powers Raines; Taylor Marie Savage; Jared Henson Barton; Joseph Edward Barton; Joshua Grant Barton; Joseph Daniel Goode; Marcus Edward Haley; Matthew Deathon Haley; Matthew Wayne Powers; Michael Aaron Powers; Jesse Stewart Savage; Robert Edward Savage; and William Matthew Savage; and ten great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Millington on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be held at Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery. A reception will follow at Wilson Hall at First United Methodist Church in Millington.
