Christine (Chris) H. Walgenbach, 92, a faithful and humble servant of God, passed away on December 19, 2013, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was born on a farm in Woonsocket, South Dakota to Max and Cristina Regynski. Chris was devoted to her late husband Carl (Wally) Walgenbach, a chief petty officer in the Navy, for over 62 years, having married immediately after World War II. Although their service travels took them to Hawaii, Guam, California and Washington State, Chris lived in Millington for over 50 years, and was a prominent and active member of the Naval Air Support (NAS) Memphis Chapel. She taught Sunday school, summer vacation bible school, participated in women's bible groups, and assisted with numerous outreach activities to support military service members and their families. She was also a much-loved member of the NAS Memphis TOPS group for over 30 years, serving as an officer of several occasions, and the Millington Senior Citizens group. Chris also worked at the base Navy Exchange, retiring after 30 years of exemplary service. Although failing health in 2011 required her relocation to Virginia Beach, where she could be in the loving care of her daughter, Charlotte Zeiders and her husband, Michael, she always considered Millington her home.
In addition to her husband Wally, she was predeceased in death by her daughter, Charlene Lucido, her first grandchild, Elliot, and all of her seven siblings. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Charlotte Zeiders and her husband Michael, and Carla Walgenbach and her husband Ben Willner, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; son-in-law Frank Lucido, of Millington, Tennessee; six grandchildren, Kim Lucido of West Memphis, Arkansas, Michael Lucido, of Millington, Tennessee, Stephen Zeiders and his wife, Alexis of Stafford, Virginia, Christopher Zeiders, and his wife, Addie of Falls Church, Virginia, Jeffrey Zeiders and his wife, Mary-Lacey of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Allison Willner of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and six great-grandchildren, Keira, Sincere, Gage, Francesca, Zyaire, and Nylah. She is also survived by numerous extended family members and friends.
A viewing will be held at the Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home in Millington from 6:00 to 8:00 on January 3rd. Services will be held at Northridge on January 4th at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee.
