Carolyn Cocke Ward passed away on December 12,2023, age 88 after a long illness. She was born to Wheeler and Marie Cocke on January 3, 1935.

Before retiring, she enjoyed working at the Shelby County schools because of her love for children. She was a member of Mount Vernon Memorial Church. She was known by all who loved her as "Nanny" or "Nanny Ward". Nanny's greatest love was her family.  She enjoyed spending time at her lake house. If you saw her in the fall she was most likely outside with her beloved dogs raking and burning leaves. A task most didn't like but she loved making a fire!  She loved cheering for the Memphis Tigers basketball but the biggest joy of hers was watching her son, Mike competing in the 88 sprint car racing around the dirt track. She was his biggest cheerleader.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Melvin of 52 years, sister Elizabeth Williams, brother James "Bubba" Cocke and nephew Robby Melton.

She leaves behind a son, Mike Ward (Cheryl), granddaughters, Mandy Pittman (Daryn), Alicia Dacus (Dane), grandson, Eric LeBlanc (Karen), six great grandchildren, a sister, Nancy Melton and many other family and friends whom she loved dearly.

The family would like to extend a special appreciation to the staff and especially the caregivers at the Arbors at Parkway Cove for giving such wonderful care and loving our Carolyn. You will always hold a special place in our hearts.

A graveside service will be held Saturday December 16, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home and Cemetery, 6755 HWY 51 N. Millington, TN 38053.
