Billy Lynn Mansel, 66, of Counce, TN sadly passed away on July 17, 2023. Bill was born to Noah Russell Mansel and Christine Peck Mansel on February 24, 1957. He shared his birthdate with his twin brother Bobby G. Mansel. Bill served in the United States Marine Corps from November 25, 1975 to August 24, 1982. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant A/C Crash Crewman-Firefighter. On November 5, 1979 Billy "Tallboy" Mansel began his 28 year long career with the Memphis Fire Department. Bill worked in Fire Prevention for 15 years with the MFD and retired on April 14, 2014. He was a graduate of the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland where he received specialized training in the area of Fire Science. Bill worked for the State of Tennessee in Code Enforcement from 2015 to 2021.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Jan Mansel of Counce, TN as well as his daughter Mindi(Chad) Harkness and his grandson Cade of Barretville, TN, Jason(Niki) Mooney and his grandchildren Brewer and Ella of Powell, TN, and Lee (Bobbie) Mooney of Millington, TN. He is survived by one brother Wayne(Cathy) Mansel of Olive Branch, MS, and three sisters Sheila Winstead and Judi Pruett of Southaven, MS, and Crystle Gibson of Branson, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents Noah Russell Mansel and Christine Peck Mansel, one sister Phyllis Cox, his twin brother Bobby Glenn Mansel, and brother, Richard Mansel.
Bill was affectionately known as "Tallboy", a nickname easily earned for his stature. He will be remembered for his large hands that held on to those he loved, his bright blue eyes that always shined, his big smile that was mischievous, and his huge heart that left no doubt that he loved you big.
