Bettye Midyett Edwards of Millington, TN, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2024, at the age of 90. She was born on October 8, 1933, and grew up in Covington, TN. After graduating from high school, Bettye moved to Memphis with her husband Robert Midyett and worked in office administration for a variety of companies over the years. Bettye was a loving mother to her two children, Cindy and Larry. She volunteered in the PTA and as a room mother. She always supported her children whether it was making dance costumes or attending sporting events, and these activities and support continued with her grandchildren. She loved being a mother, a grandmother and a great-grandmother. Bettye learned to sew very young and it was a favorite pastime. She was a talented seamstress often designing and making clothing and dance costumes as well as much of her home décor. Bettye and Robert were active members of Georgian Hills United Methodist Church in the Frayser community and served there as UMYF counselors. In retirement, Bettye and her husband Fred Edwards were active members of their beloved Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church in Millington. Later in life Bettye became an avid fan of the Memphis Grizzlies proudly sporting her Grizzlies cup and Growl towel and watching every game from home.
Bettye was preceded in death by her first husband of twenty-seven years, Robert Larry Midyett, and her second husband of forty years , Fred Roy Edwards, and also her two sisters and brother. She is survived by her children, Cynthia Midyett Hardy (Dave), and Robert Larry Midyett Jr. (Cheryl Lynn). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Robby Midyett (Lauren Reed), Cameron Midyett, Tara Clinton (Travis), Erica Heil (Adam), Shannon Hardy (Madi), Madison Dennis (Jordan), her step-grandchildren: Stephanie Pekala (Matt), Amber Carson Kuehner(Adam), Jeffrey Gagne(CeCe), and seven great-grandchildren.
