Benny Ray Hinton, 78, passed away at Methodist North Hospital on January 9th, 2018 surrounded by his family.

Born April 10th, 1939 in Shreveport, LA to James and Sadie Hinton. After high school he attended Louisiana State University and received a degree in Animal Husbandry.

Once he received his degree from LSU, he enlisted in the US Navy and served for 26 years as a Hospital Medical Corpsman. He had several tours of duty including Guam, Vietnam, and Italy. He retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer (E7) then finished his career as a Lab Technician at Baptist Hospital Tipton and Methodist North Hospital.

Husband of Kathy Hinton for 45 years who survives him. He is survived by 1 brother, Jerry (& Carol) Hinton of Horn Lake, MS. 4 children, Sherri Knell of Lake Elsinore, CA. Jim (& Christi) Hinton of Knoxville, TN. Kevin (& Jenny) Hinton of Atoka, TN. Jeff (& Adrienne) Hinton of Arlington, TN. 10 grandchildren: Ellura, Erik, Alex, Sarah, Maddie, Katie, Owen, Audrey, Eli, and Benjamin. And 1 great grandson, Kaster.

Early in his life he enjoyed baseball, bowling, automobile repair and restoration, gardening, and billiards. Later in life he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, relaxing in his la-z-boy recliner, watching sports on television and doing crossword puzzles.

Visitation will be Friday January 12th, 2018 from 5-7pm at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Saturday January 13th, 2018 at 1pm with internment immediately following.
