IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barry Edward
Clements
October 8, 1949 – December 23, 2021
Barry Edward Clements, 72 years of age, passed on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at home surrounded by family and friends.
Barry was born on October 8, 1949, in West Chester, Pennsylvania to the late Raymond Wesley Clements and Audrey Elizabeth Stewart Clements. He was the second eldest of seven children. Barry graduated from Chester High School in 1967 and joined the Navy in 1969.
Upon entering the Navy on 12 June 1969, he reported to the Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes. During his career he faithfully served on various ships including Naval Air Technical Training Center, Lakehurst where he attended Aircrew Survival Equipment Class "A", "B", and "C" Schools, Naval Aviation Schools Command, Pensacola; Attack Squadron 86, Naval Air Station Cecil Field; Anti-Submarine Warfare Squadron 28, Naval Air Station, Cecil Field; Naval Special Warfare Group 2, Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek; Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department, Naval Air Station Cubi Point, Republic of the Philippines; Air Department, Naval Air Engineering Center Lakehurst; Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department, Naval Air Development Center, Warminster; Fleet Logistic Support Squadron Cubi Point, Republic of the Philippines; and Instructor Duty Naval Air Technical Training Centers, Lakehurst and Millington. Barry's performance and duty have earned him many awards and citations including the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Battle Efficiency Ribbon, Five Good Conduct Service Medals, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Two Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbons and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. During his tour at Naval Air Technical Training Center, Millington, he was assigned as the Course Supervisor for the Aircrew Survival Equipmentman School and the Aviation Mechanic E (Safety Equipment) School and finally as the Leading Petty Officer of the Aviation Life Support Division. He accomplished his duties in an outstanding manner. His initiative and determination contributed greatly to the positive reputation his command enjoys. He and his family took great pride in his distinguished Naval career until he retired in December 1992 as Senior Chief. He also worked for Gould's Pump for 20 years
Barry was very passionate with his running and ran many local marathons and 5K's throughout his life and he was recognized in his participation in the 1,000 mile Running Club in Lakehurst New Jersey. He was a member of the Memphis Runners Club, and he ran when it was raining, icy conditions, and snow. Even few injuries could not keep this man down. When he traveled or took family vacations, he packed at least 2 pairs of running shoes with him. Therefore, he was very heartbroken and never accepted that he could no longer run after being diagnosed with anaplastic thyroid cancer in October 2020. Even during his battle with this very aggressive cancer, Barry was positive and determined to fight with all his being. He sure gave it all he had and more, just like running his toughest marathon. Although he will be reunited with his best "running buddy", Pepper, our family Dalmatian who loved to run with Barry. One of the volunteers works that was very close to Barry's heart was the St. Jude Classic Golf Tournaments in which he attended for the last 15 years. Even in August of 2021 when he was weak and short of breath due to cancer, he was out there and got the job done and earned that badge!
Barry is leaving behind his loving wife of 39 years, Teresita Clements and his children Carol Lightle of North Bend, WA; Tony Canes of Suffolk, VA; Jason Clements of Jacksonville, FL; and Jonathan Clements of Memphis, TN. Grandchildren Kaleb Canes, Isaac Canes, and Ethan Lightle. Siblings Robert and wife Pat Clements of Pilesgrove NJ; Ronald and wife Anne Clements of Wilmington DE; Mike and wife Sharon Clements of Aston PA; William Clements of Linwood PA; Jo-Ann Clements Joyce and husband Tom of Linwood, Pa. He is blessed to have nephews and nieces and their loved ones in the East Coast.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Crystal Clements and eldest brother, Raymond Jr. Clements of Newark NJ who passed away in March 2021
