Alvin C. Maples, 87, of Millington, went to be with his Lord, Monday, December 12 at 1:15 AM, at Methodist North Hospital. He retired from teaching and coaching after 44 years in Mississippi, Arkansas, Millington schools. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Adult and Hallelujah Choirs. He died surrounded by his family. His son-in-law, Bill Gorman, prayed thanking God, for Alvin, being such an inspiration to family and friends. He had worked over 30 years in the baby bed nursery. He had a boat for many years and taught many young people to both swim and ski. His yard won many awards for his Christmas decorations and its monthly beauty. He is survived by his wife of 64 and half years Emogene (Emmy), son, Bobby (Susan) Maples, daughters Renee (Bill) Gorman, and Rinda McNeil: grandchildren Hunter (Leigh) Maples, Lance Maples, Alison (Mark) Greenburger, Ainley (Jason) Burch, Gresh (Ben Grisham, and Rinda Shelby McNeil. Alvin had 5 great grandchildren: Ellie, Will, Rhodes Greenberger, Walker Gorman, and Cooper Maples. His children and grandchildren were the joy of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Winford and Beaulah Maples, and grandson, Wiley Gorman. Visitation will be Tuesday Night, December 13 from 5 until 8 PM; Services will be Wednesday, December 14, at 11:00 AM with visitation at 10:00 AM. Both Visitation and Services will be held at First Baptist Church, Millington, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to the Harvest Fund, at First Baptist or to the charity of their choice. Northridge Woodhaven Funeral home has been entrusted with services.
