Bean, Sr.
February 2, 1937 – June 30, 2025
Senior Chief Petty Officer Albert "Al" Louis Bean, Sr., 88, of Millington, TN, passed away on June 30, 2025.
Al was born in Holly Springs, MS, and raised in Memphis, TN. He attended Manassas High School before relocating to Camden, New Jersey, where he graduated from Camden High School. Shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he dedicated many years of honorable service to his country. During his time in the Navy, he met his wife, Ruth. Together, they shared a deep bond and a love for traveling and spending meaningful time with friends and family.
Al was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Al earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the Memphis State University and a Master of Science from the University of Arkansas. After retiring from active duty, Al continued his dedication to public service as a civil servant and later as a committed community leader, serving on various boards and in leadership roles.
He is survived by his children, Dr. Albert Bean, Jr. and Effie V. Bean Cozart (Joseph); his cherished granddaughter, Zara Cozart; and his siblings Bernice, Mary Ruth, and Oscar Bean.
Al was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth Boone Bean; his parents, Jasper Bean, Sr. and Effie Hubbard Bean; and his siblings Edward Clay Bean, Marshall Bean, Evelyn Bean, Jasper Bean, Jr. and Willie Bean.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home, 6755 Highway 51 North, Millington, TN 38053.
Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Idlewild Presbyterian Church, 1750 Union Avenue, Memphis, TN 38104. Interment will follow at Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery.
Al will be remembered for his dedication to family and his commitment to service.
