Agnes Cantrell English, beloved mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on May 30, 2014 at the age of 87. Born April 7, 1927 in Smithville, Tennessee on a self -sustaining corn and tobacco farm to Robert and Luna Cantrell, she was also preceded in death by brothers Luther Mason, James Buford, and Eugene Cantrell. She leaves behind her devoted children: Judith Dawson (Mike) of Columbia, S.C., JoAnne English of Cordova, Ernest English, III of Crockett, California, and Debra English of Arlington, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and former husband Ernest English, Jr. of Las Vegas. While participating in activities as a resident at the King's Daughters and Sons Home, she remained close to her church home, First United Pentecostal Church of Millington. Her strong faith could be sensed by others in her patience; her gentle, caring ways; her courage facing adversity; her graciousness, sweet smiles and humor. Her early life was one of challenging adventures as the wife of a Navy pilot. She later worked at NAS Memphis, Automotive Jobbers, William R. Moore, and Holidays, and liked to read, play bridge and golf, cook, sew, do crafts and needlework. She was a loving, supportive mother, Sunday School teacher, den and room mother, Girl Scout leader, Little League mom, infant/toddler teacher, and friend. The family wishes to express deepest gratitude to her church family and the compassionate caregivers and volunteers of KDHS. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 6 and one hour prior to the Saturday services.
